An investment strategy built around what your capital needs to do

Investment advisory

Investment advisory is personal advice on how to invest your capital: which asset classes, markets and currencies to hold, in what proportions and for how long. It is for individuals, families and business owners in the GCC who hold assets with several banks and want one strategy that ties those holdings together.

Investment opportunities are rarely in short supply. The harder question is which of them belong in your portfolio, in what proportion, and for how long.

Our investment advisory service helps you answer that question with a clear strategy, so that each decision fits a plan you understand rather than standing alone.

Our role is to advise. We explain the reasoning behind each recommendation, the alternatives we considered and the risks involved, and you make the final decision. Before any engagement, we agree in writing what the service covers, how we are paid and any conflicts of interest, so you know where our advice begins and ends. Advice is available in English or Arabic, in person, by video or by phone.

Challenges we address

  • A portfolio that has grown through separate decisions and no longer reflects a single plan.
  • Concentration in one asset class, market, currency or company, often without it being a deliberate choice.
  • Difficulty comparing opportunities presented by different banks, brokers and contacts.
  • Uncertainty about how much risk is appropriate for your goals and timeline.
  • No regular process for reviewing whether investments are still doing their job.

Our approach

Clarify objectives
We define what the portfolio is for: income, long-term growth, preservation, a future commitment, or a mix.
Assess risk properly
We look at your willingness to take risk, your capacity to absorb losses and the risk you need to take to reach your goals.
Set a strategic allocation
We recommend a long-term mix of asset classes, regions and currencies, with the reasoning written down.
Evaluate opportunities against the plan
New opportunities are assessed for fit, cost, liquidity and risk before you commit.
Monitor and review
Where ongoing advice is agreed, we review the portfolio against its objectives at set intervals.

Who it may suit

  • Individuals with significant investable assets held across several institutions.
  • Investors who want an independent view before making a major allocation.
  • Families who want a shared investment framework for joint assets.
  • Business owners investing proceeds for the first time.

The process

  1. Discovery

We gather information about your goals, existing holdings and constraints.

  2. Analysis

We review your current portfolio for concentration, cost, liquidity and fit.

  3. Recommendation

We present a strategy and allocation, with the alternatives we considered.

  4. Implementation support

We help you put the agreed plan in place with the institutions you choose.

  5. Review

Where agreed, we report on progress and recommend adjustments.

What you may receive

  • A written investment policy summarizing objectives, risk profile and constraints.
  • A recommended strategic asset allocation.
  • A review of existing holdings with observations and suggested changes.
  • Periodic review reports, where ongoing advice is included.

Questions

Do you hold or manage my investments?

Whether we provide advice only or also manage investments on your behalf depends on our authorizations in your country and the service you choose. This is set out clearly before any engagement.

Can you advise on Sharia-compliant investments?

We can take your preference for Sharia-compliant investments into account when developing a strategy, and we will explain any trade-offs it involves.

Will you guarantee a return?

No. No adviser can honestly guarantee investment returns. We help you make informed decisions and understand the risks you are taking.

How is this different from a bank relationship manager?

A relationship manager at a bank usually works within that bank's own range of products and services. Our role is to advise on your strategy as a whole, including holdings at several institutions, and to explain the reasoning and risks behind each recommendation. How we are paid, and any arrangement that could create a conflict of interest, is set out in writing before you engage us.

Can I keep my accounts with my current banks?

Yes. Our recommendations are made with your existing holdings in view, and where implementation support is agreed, we help you put the plan in place with the institutions you choose.

What should I prepare before a first conversation?

A rough picture is enough to start: what you want your investments to achieve, the approximate value and location of your main holdings, and any commitments coming up. Please do not send account statements or identity documents before we have agreed to work together.

This page describes a service in general terms. Whether it is suitable for you depends on your circumstances, and it is offered only in jurisdictions where Aurelius Capital is authorized to provide it. Investments can fall as well as rise in value, and you may get back less than you invest. Nothing on this page is a promise of any financial outcome.

Tell us what you are planning for. An adviser will arrange an initial conversation in English or Arabic at a time that suits you.

Requesting a consultation does not create an advisory relationship. Any formal engagement is agreed separately in writing.
